The Department of Mathematics at the College of Education for Pure Sciences organized a training course entitled “Hazards of Laboratory Materials.”
.The course was presented by Asst. Prof. Dr. Safaa Mohammed Redha and Asst Lect. Shaimaa Hashim Idris.
This course aimed to explain the importance of laboratory materials, their classifications, and their various types, especially high-risk materials. It emphasized the necessity of understanding proper handling methods and demonstrating approved disposal methods according to laboratory safety standards.
The course covered several topics, including explaining mechanisms for handling laboratory waste and how to respond to emergencies within laboratories, particularly those related to laboratory contamination. It also clarified the necessary preventive measures to ensure a safe working environment for researchers and students.
The presenters recommended the importance of such topics, as the department is committed to promoting a culture of occupational safety and enhancing the skills of staff and students in handling laboratory materials and equipment. They also stressed the necessity of implementing chemical safety and security instructions in all laboratories and providing informational signs that indicate hazard levels and proper handling methods for different materials.
