Asst. Prof. Dr. Hazem Ghadeeb Kalt from the Department of Mathematics published a research paper titled “A New Family of Continuous Distributions with Applications”
in the journal STATISTICS, OPTIMIZATION AND INFORMATION COMPUTING within the Scopus Q2 classification.
The research aimed to define a new mathematical function for constructing new probability distributions. This research presented a new set of improved probability distributions, known as the survival power distribution (SP-G) family, which uses a specific approach to add an additional parameter to the survival function of the original distributions.
The research involved applying this approach to the single-parameter exponential distribution, generating a new two-parameter survival power-exponential (SP-E) distribution. The statistical properties of this new distribution and the maximum likelihood estimator are determined, and Monte Carlo simulations are used to explore the efficiency of the maximum likelihood estimator under varying sample sizes.
The study demonstrates the use of this family of distributions in modeling capabilities for various existing continuous distributions. The new distribution is also used to analyze three different sets of real data. Comparing alternative distributions on these sets shows that the new distribution outperforms the other distributions.
