The Chemistry Department at the College of Education for Pure Sciences organized a scientific workshop entitled “Educational Guidance and its Role in Enhancing Students’ Motivation to Learn.”
The workshop was presented by:
Asst. Prof. Dr. Rehab Jassim
Dr. Qasim Abdul-Amir Hamidi
This workshop aimed to introduce the concept of educational guidance and familiarize participants with its nature, objectives, and principles within the educational institution. It also aimed to introduce motivation theories by reviewing the most important psychological and educational theories that explain motivation to learn (such as self-determination theory, expectancy theory, and goal theory).
The workshop included several sessions on diagnosing the causes of low motivation: training participants in using guidance tools and methods (interviews, observation, questionnaires) to identify the psychological, social, and academic factors leading to low student motivation. It also aimed to develop communication and active listening skills for counselors and teachers to use in motivating students and addressing their academic problems. The researchers recommended paying attention to such topics in order to design guidance plans and programs and develop the skills of participants in preparing individual and group guidance programs and activities, and to apply motivation enhancement strategies such as building a positive relationship, activating moral incentives, involving students in decision-making, and creating a supportive learning environment.
