The Chemistry Department at the College of Education for Pure Sciences organized a scientific seminar entitled “Preparing Fourth-Year Students for Teaching Practical Work in Secondary Schools.”
The seminar was presented by Dr. Malik Mutlaq Takhit and a delegation from the Karbala Governorate Education Directorate: Mr. Wasfi Muhammad Tahir, Mr. Ahmed Jassim Naji, and Mr. Wahab Munir Yahya.
The seminar aimed to prepare fourth-year students for their teaching practicum in secondary schools by reviewing the mechanisms of practical application within secondary schools, explaining the most important modern teaching methods, and discussing ways to interact with students in the classroom.
The seminar covered several topics, including the importance of practical application in preparing future teachers, the role of secondary schools in refining the skills of student teachers, understanding how to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge at the college and practical application in schools, and developing classroom management and communication skills with students.
The researchers recommended focusing on such topics to emphasize the necessity of holding intensive training courses before students begin their practical training. They also stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between the college and the Directorate of Education to ensure the success of the practical training experience. Furthermore, they recommended adopting modern teaching methods that align with the demands of contemporary education, ensuring that students undergoing practical training are monitored in the field by educational supervisors, and raising students’ awareness of the ethics of the teaching profession and the importance of professional commitment.
At the conclusion of the seminar, the lecturers were honored with certificates of participation in recognition of their scientific and educational efforts in making the seminar a success. These certificates were presented by the Head of the Chemistry Department, Assistant Professor Dr. Inam Jawda Radhi, in appreciation of their role in supporting the preparation of fourth-year students and equipping them for their practical training in secondary schools.
