The College of Education for Pure Sciences Organizes a Training Course on Occupational Safety for Staff Working in the Chemistry Department’s Laboratories.

The Chemistry Department at the College of Education for Pure Sciences organized a training course on occupational safety for staff working in the Chemistry Department’s laboratories.

The course was presented by:
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Nazim Bahjat
Lect. Hussein Ali Ahmed
Asst. Lect. Hanan Qais Saadoun

This course aims to protect workers from potential hazards during work, prevent accidents and injuries, maintain a safe and clean laboratory environment, and enhance awareness of safe work methods and ensure the accuracy of scientific results.

The course included a number of key topics, most notably:
Identifying the types of hazards in chemical laboratories, such as acids, bases, solvents, toxic and explosive materials; physical hazards (heat, electricity);
and how to safely handle chemicals while wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) such as coats, gloves, goggles, and masks.

The researchers recommended the need to pay attention to such issues, including wearing protective equipment, handling materials and equipment safely, storing materials properly, disposing of waste safely, reporting accidents immediately, maintaining laboratory cleanliness, and following emergency instructions.
