The Department of BIOLOGY in the College of Education for Pure Sciences discussed the graduation research projects of fourth-year undergraduate students. The research projects covered various topics, including environmental sustainability, recycling, and the most prevalent diseases currently prevalent, their causes, and treatments. The conference consisted of 15 sessions, each containing 5-6 research projects.

Students presented their research to the relevant committee and presented their most important findings through a presentation. This included a discussion of the graduation project of fourth-year evening student Zahraa Hassan Hadi, entitled: “The Effect of Foliar Spraying with Gibberellic Acid on Some Vegetative Growth Traits of Wheat Plants Under Different Levels of Salt Stress.” The discussion committee included Prof. Dr. Nibal Mutair, Chair, Asst. Prof. Dr. Fatima Karim Khadir, Member, and Asst. Dr. Talib Hashim, Member.

The research resulted in planting five wheat seeds in plastic pots. The first factor of the experiment was spraying with gibberellic acid at three concentrations (0, 150, and 300) mg/L-1, with the acid sprayed twice, four leaves and eight leaves. The second factor was using water with a salinity of 1 and 3 dS m-1.

The data were statistically analyzed, and significant differences were found for most of the studied traits compared to the control treatment. The number of experimental units was 18. Spraying was done in the early morning to prevent evaporation and increase the plant’s uptake of the foliar spray.

The objective of the graduation project discussion was to guide the students in addressing the problems they encountered during the research period and to develop solutions to the difficulties encountered in the scientific aspect.
