A Doctoral Dissertation at the College of Education for Pure Sciences

PhD Thesis Discussion

The Department of Biology, College of Education for Pure Sciences, University of Karbala, discussed the doctoral thesis entitled (The effect of the nano mixture loaded with albendazole on some immune indicators of animals infected with hydatid cysts, an in vivo study), by the student (Alaa Adnan Abbas Al-Janabi), and under the supervision of Prof. Kawthar Abdul-Hussein Al-Moussawi.

The current study aimed to study the effect of a mixture of nanoparticles (silver and copper) on the infection of hydatid cyst disease caused by the parasite Echinococcus granulosus in vivo. Loading albendazole on the mixture (hybrid) and knowing the effect of the two compounds on some in vivo blood parameters and their efficacy in treatment compared to albendazole alone.

The thesis concluded, that the nanocomposite and the hybrid compound did not affect blood parameters, oxidants and their antagonists in vivo, and their therapeutic efficacy is better than albendazole alone, and they have the ability to restore the tissue and cellular kinetics under study to the normal state.

The discussion came out with several recommendations, including: preparing the nanocomposite and the hybrid with low concentrations with an increase in the dosing period, and preparing different nanosized sizes. With loading other drugs on the nanocomposite, studying their effect in vivo and comparing with albendazole alone in the therapeutic efficacy, and conducting extensive studies to know the effect of hydatid cysts and the two nano and hybrid compounds on the pathogenesis of other body tissues susceptible to infection with hydatid cysts, as well as on the expression ratios of different cellular kinetics. The student received an excellence grade.
