The Chemistry Department at the College of Education for Pure Sciences organized a training course entitled “Waste Management and Recycling Methods During the Arba’een Pilgrimage in the Holy City of Karbala.”

This course aimed to introduce participants to waste management and methods for treating solid, liquid, and hazardous waste. It also aimed to develop skills in waste sorting and recycling, introduce modern waste management technologies, and promote the concept of environmental sustainability and reduce the environmental impact of waste.
The course covered several topics, including an introduction to waste management, waste collection and sorting, the impact of waste on public health and the environment, and a detailed explanation of the source separation system. It also covered treatment, reuse, and recycling techniques, including mechanical, thermal, and biological treatment, as well as incineration, biodegradation, and the treatment of liquid and gaseous waste.
The researchers recommended paying attention to such topics to develop legislation and sustainability laws and policies for waste management.
International environmental standards (ISO 14001) and the importance of the role of individuals and society in sustainable waste management.
