Prof. Dr. Ban Taha Muhammad, a lecturer from the Department of Biology, published a scientific article on the Agaricus bisporus mushroom.

She explained that changing global food requirements urgently require addressing food security challenges through diverse agricultural strategies. One such strategy is promoting secondary agricultural activities, such as mushroom cultivation, which plays a critical role in addressing growing concerns surrounding food quality, human health, and environmental sustainability.

Mushrooms are increasingly recognized as a key component of future diets due to their rich nutritional profile and health-promoting properties. Consumer interest in edible mushrooms has increased significantly in recent years, driven largely by their functional nutritional potential and therapeutic applications. Button mushrooms are the most widely cultivated mushroom species worldwide. Taxonomically, they belong to the phylum Basidiomycota, class Agaricomycetes, order Agaricales, and family Agaricaceae [6]. Native to Europe and North America, A. bisporus accounts for approximately 35–45% of the total edible mushroom production worldwide.
