The Department of Biology Organizes a Seminar for PhD Students
The Department of Life Sciences at the College of Education for Pure Sciences organized a scientific seminar for PhD students entitled “A Taxonomic Study of Selected Centaurium Species from the Gentianaceae Family and Testing Their Inhibitory Activity Against Two Pathogenic Fungi in Iraq.” The seminar was presented by student Noor Jawad Kadhim.
The study involved a precise taxonomic identification of selected Centaurium species from the Gentianaceae family, along with an evaluation of their inhibitory activity against two pathogenic fungi prevalent in Iraq.
The study relied on detailed taxonomic characteristics in addition to laboratory bioassays to determine the efficacy of plant extracts in inhibiting fungal growth.
The study’s findings aim to enhance the taxonomic knowledge of medicinal plants, as well as highlight the therapeutic potential of these plant species as promising natural resources in combating pathogenic fungi, thus contributing to the development of safe and environmentally friendly bio-alternatives.
