The College of Education for Pure Sciences Organizes a Training Course on Sustainable Development.
The College of Education for Pure Sciences organized a training course entitled “Cognitive Development in Universities.”
The course was presented by Asst. Lect. Aliya Abdullah Hantoush.
This course aims to introduce the concept of sustainable development, one of the most prominent concepts to have crystallized in recent decades. It refers to the balance between meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. This development requires achieving a balance between economic, social, and environmental dimensions.
The course included several strategies for achieving sustainable development, including the extracurricular activities strategy: Students follow an educational program outside the curriculum and outside of school hours. These programs are distributed among the classes or stages according to the students’ interests. For example, the issue of gender equality, adolescent problems, and addiction, as well as cultural and artistic activities (memorizing the Qur’an, reciting short stories, etc.).
The researcher recommended paying attention to such topics to introduce the local community to the most important development programs and voluntary and official activities among the community members in order to spread the culture of environmental and development awareness and increase job opportunities to invest energies. The concept of “green education” is evidenced by the modern education that seeks sustainable development and benefits from it in all elements of the educational process with high efficiency and distinguished outcomes.
