A Lecturer from the Department of Chemistry Receives a PhD from the University of Kufa…
Lecturer (Lect. Shaima Hamza Daly) from the Department of Chemistry received her PhD for her thesis entitled: “Synthesis and Spectral and Biological Study of Some New Azo-Schiff Ligands and Their Metal Complexes” from the College of Science at the University of Kufa, specializing in Inorganic Chemistry.
The study aimed to prepare and characterize new heterocyclic derivatives with five-membered rings. The study conducted UV-Vis, IR, Mass, H-NMR, C13-NMR, XRD, and FESEM tests, and tested the biological activity of some of the prepared complexes against two types of bacteria and breast cancer cells.
The results of the thesis showed that these compounds have an inhibitory effect on some types of bacteria and have toxic activity against breast cancer cells. The thesis also recommended studying the effectiveness of the compounds against various types of cancer, such as colon and skin cancer.
