The Department of Biology Discusses a Doctoral Thesis on the Effect of Biosynthesized Silver Nanoparticles from Algae Extracts

Discussion of a Doctoral Thesis

The Department of Biology at the College of Education for Pure Sciences at the University of Kerbala discussed a doctoral thesis entitled “The Effect of Biosynthesized Silver Nanoparticles from Algae Extracts Against Some Pathogenic Fungi.” The thesis was presented by student Marwa Abdul Karim Obaid, under the supervision of Asst. Prof. Ban Musa Hassan.
The thesis aimed to isolate some Candida species from patients in the intensive care unit (ICU). The morphological, microscopic, biochemical, and physiological diagnosis of the isolated Candida species was performed. The molecular diagnosis of the isolated Candida species was performed using PCR technology. The sensitivity of the Candida species to some antifungal antibiotics was also examined.
The thesis also concluded that oral candidiasis in patients admitted to the ICU was highly virulent, as the isolated Candida species exhibited high resistance to antifungal drugs. The study recommended paying attention to the health and hygiene of patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU), using more accurate diagnostic methods, and taking seriously the symptoms of fungal infections to accurately determine the type and amount of treatment used to limit the emergence of resistance. It also recommended studying and analyzing the complete genome of Candida isolates from the ICU. The student received an excellent grade.
