As part of the series of scientific activities organized by the Department of Biology, a seminar was discussed for graduate student Suha Najm Obaid, under the supervision of Prof. Ashwaq Kazim Obaid, entitled “Pheromones.” The objective of this seminar was to explain that pheromones are chemicals secreted by organisms of the same species to send specific messages between individuals. The study distinguishes these pheromones from hormones, focusing specifically on the most common type of pheromone: sex pheromones, which are secreted by females to attract males during the mating season. In conclusion, pheromones are important in: – Facilitating mating. – Protecting animal communities from danger. – Improving coordination among group members during foraging. – Regulating social behavior in insect colonies.
