Faculty member Dr. Hussein Saeed Abbas from the Department of Life Sciences published a scientific study titled “A Study of the Effects of the Cytokines IL-1β on the Occurrence of Cardiomyopathy” in the Clinical Medicine and Health Research Journal. The study aimed to investigate the antioxidant capacity and its relationship with trace elements in patients with cardiomyopathy, and its association with the cytokines IL-1β. The study also included an explanation of the three main types of cardiomyopathy (dilated, hypertrophic, and restrictive). Acute myocardial necrosis (AMI) is characterized by damage to the heart muscle due to interference with the coronary blood supply (which reduces the delivery of oxygen and nutrients) and also due to increased metabolic activity. This also results in a disruption in the myocardial oxygen and nutrient supply. The study concluded that the essential role of antioxidant capacity and trace elements affected by IL-1β cytokinesis as a risk factor for the occurrence of cardiomyopathy patients in the Iraqi population.
