The Biology Department Organizes a Training Course on Measuring Vegetative Growth Indicators and Physiological Indicators

Training Course

The Department of Biology at the College of Education for Pure Sciences organized a training course on (Measuring Vegetative Growth Indicators and Physiological Indicators of Plant and Algae Samples). It was delivered by: (Asst. Prof. Dr. Fatima Karim Khudair), (Dr. Quyud Thaban Youssef), and (Lect. Hadeel Muhammad Thabet).
The course aimed to explain the concept of growth as the increase in dry matter. Therefore, the physiological maturity of the plant is measured when the dry matter reaches its maximum level. And to explain the concept of development or development, which are the morphological changes that occur in the plant, such as the appearance of leaves, stems, flowers, fruits, and seeds that accompany the growth.
The course also included several topics on growth indicators, whether vegetative growth indicators include plant height – number of leaves – leaf area – fresh and dry weight of the vegetative total. Or root growth indicators: including root length – root diameter – fresh and dry weight of the root system, fruit growth indicators, physiological growth indicators and methods for measuring them.
The researcher called for attention to such topics in order to know how to measure other indicators in plants and algae, such as root growth indicators and measuring mineral elements and comparing them with other species because of their importance, in addition to using other methods to measure indicators and find out the reasons for their results.
