The Department of Biology Organizes a Scientific Symposium on Smoking and its Effects on Human Life

The Department of Biology at the College of Education for Pure Sciences organized a training course on (Smoking and its Effects on Human Life). The course is delivered by: (Prof. Dr. Qayoud Thuabaan Yusef), and (Asst. Lect. Sally Nasser Abbas).
The symposium aimed to introduce the harms of smoking and the most important diseases that affect smokers, including cancer, respiratory diseases such as cough and asthma, and digestive system diseases such as stomach ulcers and heart disease.
The symposium also included several topics, including an explanation of the immediate effects of nicotine and its long-term effects through the effect of smoking on the genetic material, chromosomes, and the occurrence of mutations.
The researcher called for attention to such topics in order to join efforts in all ministries and supporting bodies in spreading awareness to abstain from smoking and implement broad educational campaigns in government institutions and public places to prevent this bad phenomenon, which is considered one of the most important causes of cancer and heart disease, and this is what was confirmed by the World Health Organization in World No-Smoking Day falls on May 31 of each year.
