The Department of Chemistry Discusses a Master’s Thesis on the Use of a Selective Spectroscopic Method for the Determination of Cobalt, Cadmium, and Lead ions by their complexes with Lycande Schiff

Discussion of a Master’s Thesis

The Department of Chemistry at the College of Education for Pure Sciences discussed the master’s thesis for the student (Mohamed Wasfi Taher) for his tagged thesis entitled (Using a selective spectroscopic method for the determination of cobalt, cadmium, and lead ions by their complexes with Lycande Schiff (PTMH) and (MMPH)), under the supervision of (Prof. Dr. Sajid Hassan Kazar). The study was as follows:
1. Synthesis of two new ligandins from Schiff compounds by conventional sublimation method. The ligandins were identified by UV-Vis magnetic technique.
2. Conduct a spectroscopic study of the selected metal ion complexes under study using UV-Vis rays, then determine the maximum absorption wavelength of the metal ion complexes.
3. Study the best conditions for the determination of [Co(II), Cd(II), and [Pb(II)] ions using the prepared landlines.
4. Study of thermodynamic functions of complexes at different temperatures.
5. Studying the nature of the association between Ligandine and the selected Metal-Ions under study.
6. Study of reaction kinetics (reaction rank, reaction rate constant, and reaction rate) for the complexes under study.

The conclusions were:

1. The candies (PTMH) and (MMPH) were prepared by the escalation method, which is a simple method with a high product and was according to simplified conditions.
2. By using the technique of infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and nuclear magnetic resonance (1H-NMR).
3. The possibility of using the two detectors (PTMH) and (MMPH) spectroscopically by estimating microgram quantities of cobalt (II), cadmium (II), and lead (II).
4. The UV-visible spectra of (Pb(II), Cd (II), and Co(II) complexes with (PTMH) and (MMPH) detectors have higher wavelength peaks than the absorption peaks.
5. The method for the determination of Pb(Ⅱ), Cd(Ⅱ), and Co(Ⅱ) with the two prepared reagents is a quick and simple method after fixing the optimum conditions from the acidity function.
6. The negative values of the thermodynamic functions for the complexes of Pb(Ⅱ), Cd(Ⅱ), and Co(Ⅱ) indicate the spontaneity of the reaction and that this reaction is exothermic.
7. The results of the kinetic functions show that all the complexes of both ligands are subject to a second-order equation.
8. After reaching the results of determining the equivalence of the complexes using the molar ratios method and the Jobe method, it becomes clear that the ratio of the ligand to the ion is (1: 2), that is, one mole of the metal ion with two moles of the ligand for all the prepared complexes under study.
9. By calculating the values of the molar absorption coefficient, percentage deviation, and tuning, we conclude that these analytical methods are sensitive, easy, fast, accurate, tunable, and good selective.
After extensive scientific discussion and listening to the student’s defense of his message, his method of research, and his use of sources and references, the thesis was approved with honors. Congratulations to the student, his supervisor, the Department of Chemistry, and the College of Education for Pure Sciences for this great achievement, and God Almighty grants success.
