The Department of Biology Discusses a Master’s Thesis on the Evaluation of the Biological Efficacy and the Protective Role of the Plant Jadda in Male  Rabbits Treated with Sodium Benzoate.

Discussion of a Master’s Thesis

The Department of biology at the College of Education for Pure Sciences discussed the master’s thesis for the student (Israa Khalaf Abdulkarim) entitled (Evaluation of the biological efficacy and protective role of Teucruim Polium in male rabbits, Oryctolagus cuniculus treated with sodium benzoate), under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. (Naseer Mirza Hamza). The study aimed to:
1- Knowing the toxic damage to the body from the use of sodium benzoate, as it is one of the substances that are used in the food industry as preservatives.
2- Testing the preventive medical efficacy of the aqueous extract of the plant (Teucrium Polium) with different concentrations against the toxicity of benzoate.
As for the most prominent conclusions, it was surprising through the results of the current study that the following was concluded:
1- The results of the current study showed that sodium benzoate caused significant changes in some blood parameters, which included liver enzymes, antioxidants, kidney parameters, and lipids, in addition to pathological changes in liver tissue.
2- The results of the current study showed that the extract of Al-Jada has a protective effect against the toxicity caused by sodium benzoate.
After the extensive scientific discussion and listening to the student’s defense of her thesis, the method of her research and her use of sources and references, the thesis was approved with a blessed appreciation for the student, her supervisor, the College of Education for Pure Sciences, the University of Karbala, and for more creativity in the service of our beloved Iraq, the Iraq of science and scholars, and from God Almighty success and payment.
