Discussion of a Master’s Thesis
The Department of Life Sciences at the College of Education for Pure Sciences at the University of Karbala discussed a master’s thesis entitled (Association of Some Genetic Indicators with Uterine Fibrosis) by the student (Widyan Abdel Karim Ibrahim), and under the supervision of (Prof. Dr. Liqa Hassoun Sakban). The aim of the thesis was to identify some of the molecular genetic aspects of women with uterine fibrosis. Blood samples were taken from the Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital in Karbala Governorate, which included (50) women with uterine fibrosis and (50) apparently healthy women (control group), whose ages ranged from ( 30-60 years old and during the period from October 10, 2022 to February 15, 2023. The thesis also included: several axes. The first axis included studying the effect of some risk factors in women with UFs, including body mass index (BMI), age, the patient’s family history, use of oral contraceptives, menstrual periods, miscarriages, and the number of births. The second axis dealt with studying the level of vitamin D concentration in the blood serum of women with UFs and comparing it to a group of control women. The third axis included studying the polymorphisms of the vitamin D receptors gene -VDR (rs2228570) using the RFLP-PCR technique. The letter recommended the necessity of introducing molecular screening as a means of early detection of uterine fibroid tumors in Iraqi hospitals for the purpose of early detection of any damage to the main genes that cause the disease, as well as the development of molecular, histological and physiological studies of pathological cases of difficult cases of uterine fibroid tumors. And a study of other polymorphisms in the VDR and TNF-a genes and other genes associated with uterine fibroids. The student received an excellent grade. To view the pictures:
