Discussion of a Master’s Thesis
The Department of Life Sciences at the College of Education for Pure Sciences at the University of Karbala discussed a master’s thesis entitled (An immunological Study of the Effect of Some Components of Partially Purified Local Propolis on a Lung cancer cell line) by the student (Ali Naseer Zubaidi), and under the supervision of (Asst. Prof. Hayam Abdel Redha Al-Awad) . The aim of the thesis was to evaluate the cytotoxic activity and immunomodulatory activity of active compounds isolated from the ethanolic extract of propolis compared with a chemotherapy (cisplatin) on the human lung cancer cell line A549. The thesis also included: studying the cytotoxic effects of the active compounds (CA, CAPE, and CHR) extracted from propolis on the human lung cancer cell line A549, and studying the cytotoxic effects of the drug cisplatin (Cis) on the human lung cancer cell line A549, and comparing these effects with the active compounds of propolis. In addition to estimating the levels of some immune parameters (PDL-1, CD24, and CXCR4) in the human lung cancer cell line A549 before and after adding the active compounds (CA, CAPE, and CHR) extracted from propolis. The thesis recommended studying the effect of the active compounds (CA, CAPE, and CHR) isolated from Iraqi propolis on other cancer cell lines in vitro. Identifying new active chemical compounds partially extracted from propolis and then studying their effect on the human lung cancer cell line A549. Finding solutions to the problem of the difference in chemical components in propolis, which vary depending on the plant and the geographical region from which it is collected, and thus its chemical composition can be unified. In addition to studying the effect of active compounds on new immune parameters in the human lung cancer cell line A549. The student received an excellent grade. To view the pictures:
