The Department of Chemistry at the College of Education for Pure Sciences at the University of Karbala discussed a master’s thesis entitled (Preparation and identification of tin oxide nanoparticles and its applications in removing mefenamic acid from aqueous solutions) by the student (Heba Ali Hamza), and under the supervision of (Asst. Prof. Dr. Ola Mahdi Al-Hindawi), (Asst. Prof. Dr. Fouad Fadel Al-Qayyim). The thesis aimed to prepare tin oxide nanoparticles by chemical precipitation method, to prepare tin oxide nanoparticles using the green method (Portulaca Oleracea extract), and to study the effect of the plant extract on the structural and optical properties of tin oxide nanoparticles. The thesis showed that the use of ultraviolet-visible spectrum (DRS) to estimate the bandgap energy turned out to be eV3.7 and eV4.2 for bare SnO2 and SnO2:P.O NPs, respectively. This refers to a quantum confinement effect that is thought to appear as particle size becomes smaller. The thesis recommended studying the susceptibility of Nanotin oxide prepared by the green method to remove various dyes by inoculating it with different materials and studying the susceptibility of Nanotin oxide prepared by the green method in the medical field to treat diseases such as cancer. The student obtained an honors degree.
