The College of Education for Pure Sciences, in Cooperation with the Holy Karbala Police Directorate, Holds a Scientific Symposium Entitled (Electronic Extortion, its Risks and Solutions)

Scientific Symposium

Within the series of scientific activities held by the scientific departments in the College of Education for Pure Sciences, and in cooperation with the Holy Karbala Police Directorate, an attendance scientific symposium was held entitled (Electronic extortion, its risks and remedies). This symposium was held under the direct supervision of the respected Dean of the College of Education for Pure Sciences (Prof. Dr. Hamida Aidan Salman), with the presence of the Intelligence Department and the Department of Control. The themes of this symposium were delivered by Brigadier General (Alaa Hussein Muhammad Al-Hasnawi), Director of the Anti-Crime Department, Colonel (Ziyad Abdel-Saheb Al-Kalkawi), Director of the Technologies and Informatics Department of the Intelligence Agency, and Colonel (Ihsan Youssef Jalil Al-Asadi) and Lieutenant Colonel (Maytham Muhammad Jamil Younes). And the civil servant (Abbas Fadel Abdel Rahman), and Major (Ali Moez Muhammad Ali).
In this symposium, they explained a definition of electronic blackmail as a process of threatening and intimidating the victim by publishing pictures or film materials or leaking confidential information about the victim, in return for paying sums of money or exploiting the victim such as disclosing confidential information of the employer or other illegal actions. Victims are usually hunted through e-mail or various social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other social media due to their wide spread and great use by all groups of society. Electronic extortion is increasing in light of the growing number of social media users and the acceleration witnessed in the number of various chat programs. We wish more creativity and progress in the field of meaningful scientific activities and cooperation between the college and the official authorities in service of our dear college.
