College of Education and Pure Sciences Holds a Panel Discussion on Determining the Spectrophotometer for some Transitional Elements

The Department of Chemistry, College of Education and Pure Sciences / University of Karbala, held a panel discussion entitled (Determining the spectrophotometer of some transition elements using new azoschiff reagents derived from imidazole) delivered by a master’s student (Montazer Muhammad Ali).
The seminar aimed to prepare two new ligands from Schiff azo compounds by the traditional nitrogen method, study its coordination sites with the metal ions under study, know their chelating behavior using spectroscopic techniques (UV-Vis), (FT-IR), (HNMR), and determine the best conditions for the formation of complexes. It includes the effect of the acidity function, the concentration of the reagent, the effect of time and temperature, the determination of the concentrations that comply with the Beer-Lambert law through the calibration curve, the calculation of the stability constants, the study of thermodynamic functions for complexes at different temperatures (∆G°, ∆H°, ∆S°) and the study of the nature of the correlation between The ligands and metal ions by finding the ratio of metal: ligand by the methods of molar ratios and continuous changes, preparation of solid complexes and their diagnosis using (UV-Vis), (FT-IR) and (1HNMR), molar electrical conductivity and magnetic sensitivity, then suggesting the structural formulas of the prepared complexes. A number of professors, teachers and graduate students attended.
