The Department of Life Sciences at the College of Education for Pure Sciences organized a training course entitled “Green Nanotechnology Applications to Enhance the Properties of Some Medicinal Plant Extracts.”
The course was presented by the following faculty members:
Asst. Prof. Dr. Ban Abdul Hussein Mohammed
Asst. Prof. Dr. Qaisar Abdul Sajjad Mohammed
Lecturer Dr. Quyoud Thaban Yousef
This course aimed to explain green nanotechnology, which is considered a modern trend in developing medicinal products derived from plants, as it combines high efficacy with environmental safety. This technology relies on manufacturing nanoparticles using natural materials extracted from the plants themselves instead of harmful chemicals, making it environmentally friendly and low in toxicity.
The course covered several topics on how to incorporate nanoparticles to enhance the properties of plant extracts in various ways, including increasing absorption within the body, improving the stability of active ingredients against environmental conditions such as light and heat, and enhancing their antimicrobial and antioxidant activity. Nanotechnology also reduces the required dosage of plant material and increases its therapeutic efficacy.
The researchers recommended focusing on such topics to promote scientific awareness and intensifying training programs related to the subject to raise both general and specialized awareness. They also recommended updating curricula by integrating modern scientific concepts into university curricula and specialized courses.
