The College of Education for Pure Sciences Organizes a Training Course on the Toxicity of Inorganic Compounds and How to Handle Them
The Chemistry Department at the College of Education for Pure Sciences organized a training course entitled “Toxicity of Inorganic Compounds and How to Handle Them During Practical Experiments in the Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory.”
The course was presented by: Lect. Nada Habib Obaid, Asst. Lect. Maha Jassim Munshid, and Asst. Lect. Basma Maitham.
This course aimed to train students on the proper and safe handling of chemicals used in educational and research laboratories.
The course covered several topics, including a detailed explanation of the types of chemicals, their classification according to their degree of hazard, and their properties. It also aimed to raise students’ awareness of the risks associated with inorganic compounds found in the inorganic chemistry laboratory and how to avoid exposure to them. Furthermore, the course included practical training for students on how to handle potential hazards from these materials and on safety and prevention methods within the laboratory.
The researchers recommended the importance of focusing on such topics to ensure strict adherence to laboratory safety procedures when handling all chemicals, especially highly toxic inorganic compounds. Wearing personal protective equipment such as gloves, lab coats, and goggles while conducting experiments.
