The College of Education for Pure Sciences organizes a scientific workshop on the impact of environmental factors on drug use.

The Department of Biology at the College of Education for Pure Sciences organized a scientific workshop entitled “The Impact of Environmental Factors on Drug Use and its Repercussions on the Immune System.”

The workshop was presented by Dr. Asaad Shaheed Mohammed, Dr. Hussein Saeed Abbas, and Dr. Haider Naeem Mohammed Ali.

This workshop aimed to raise students’ awareness of the most important environmental factors that contribute to the formation of addictive behavior and to highlight the biological mechanisms through which drugs affect the immune system. It also emphasized the relationship between the environment and public health to promote scientific understanding and prevention. The workshop further addressed the role of academic and religious institutions in reducing risks and supporting healthy behaviors.

The workshop covered several topics, including the impact of the environment on drug use through familial and social factors that encourage drug use, the impact of psychological and economic pressures, the role of negative peer influence and unstable environments, and the impact of the absence of community supervision and guidance.

It also explained the mechanisms by which drugs affect immune cells and their role in weakening the immune response. The study also explored the relationship between drug use and increased susceptibility to illness and infection.

The researchers recommended focusing on such topics to strengthen awareness programs within the university regarding the dangers of drugs and their impact on mental health and the immune system. They also emphasized the importance of activating psychological and educational counseling services to support students facing pressures or factors that could lead to addictive behavior. Furthermore, they encouraged collaboration between academic departments and health institutions to exchange expertise and conduct ongoing educational workshops.
