Discussion of a Master’s Thesis

The Department of Life Sciences at the College of Education for Pure Sciences at the University of Karbala discussed a master’s thesis entitled “A Comparative Molecular Study to Investigate the Incidence Rates of Toxoplasma Gondii in Women with Malignant and Benign Breast Cancer in the Holy City of Kerbala”
by the student (Aqila Sabah Ahmed)
Under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Kawthar Abdul Hussein Mahdi
The thesis aimed to study the Toxoplasma gondii parasite, which is an opportunistic parasite that greatly affects cancer patients, causing a weakening of their immune system, which necessitates investigating toxoplasmosis in breast cancer patients.
The thesis concluded that the incidence rates in the current study reached 11.3% of 150 women with breast cancer and that the highest incidence rates of toxoplasmosis were in the age group of 56. In addition, the appearance of the second and third genotypes of the Toxoplasma gondii parasite in breast cancer patients. The study recommended conducting in-depth studies on other cancers such as leukemia, brain, uterus, prostate and other types of cancer that time did not allow for studying and finding a relationship between infection with the Toxoplasma gondii parasite and these cancers. And studying the chemical, biological and immune mechanisms that play a role in the occurrence of infection with the parasite and its role in stimulating the formation of cancer cells. And educating patients with cancer about the seriousness of the disease in the event of severe immune violence. The student received an excellent rating.
