The respected President of the University of Kerbala, Prof. Dr. (Sabah Wajid Ali), announced that the university obtained the sixth place in Iraq in the Green Metric 2024 ranking out of 81 Iraqi governmental and private universities that appeared in the ranking. The President of the University indicated that this ranking evaluates academic institutions based on environmental sustainability standards and their efforts to achieve sustainable development inside and outside the university campus through a set of standards that include infrastructure at a rate of (15%), energy and climate change (21%), waste (18%), water (10%), transportation (18%), and education and research (18%). The official website of the classification (https://greenmetric.ui.ac.id/rankings/overall-rankings-2024) showed that seventy-eight Iraqi universities obtained positive competitive ranks, as the University of Babylon achieved the (119) global ranking, followed by the universities of Anbar, Al-Mustaqbal, Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical, Baghdad, Kerbala, Basra, Al-Kafeel, Northern Technical, Islamic University, Sumer, Warith Al-Anbia, Al-Mustansiriya, and other Iraqi governmental and private universities. The University of Karbala came in 265th place globally out of 1477 universities that appeared in the classification in its 2024 version. This achievement reflects the university’s commitment to applying the best environmental practices and enhancing its role in sustainability through its various initiatives in fields related to achieving sustainable development. On the other hand, the university president expressed his thanks and appreciation to all the scientific, administrative and service circles at the university that contributed to achieving this achievement, stressing at the same time the need to move forward to achieve more successes that enhance the university’s scientific and academic reputation in local and international forums.
