The Department of Biology Discusses a Master’s Thesis on the Effect of Foliar Spraying with Carbon Nanotubes on Some Phenotypic, Physiological, Biochemical and Anatomical Characteristics of Chrysanthemum Plants

Master Thesis Discussion

The Department of Biology at the College of Education for Pure Sciences at the University of Karbala is discussing a master’s thesis entitled (The Effect of Foliar Spraying with Carbon Nanotubes on Some Appearance, Physiological, Biochemical and Anatomical Characteristics of Chrysanthemum Plants Subjected to Salt Stress) by the student (Ghufran Habib Omran), and under the supervision of (Prof. Dr. Qais Hussein Al-Sammak ).
The aim of the thesis was to find out the extent to which different levels of saline irrigation water can be used as an alternative to brackish irrigation water in irrigating chrysanthemum plants. Determining the best treatment for spraying with multi-walled carbon nanotubes at a specific irrigation water salinity level, and the possibility of using multi-walled carbon nanotubes to increase the growth and production of chrysanthemum plants exposed to salt stress conditions.
The thesis also showed that the increase in irrigation water salinity levels led to a decrease in most of the phenotypic growth characteristics except for the number of leaves, and the physiological characteristics such as chlorophyll content, relative water content, relative growth average, absolute growth, seed yield, average activity of the peroxidase enzyme (POD) in leaves, and biochemistry such as nitrogen concentration. potassium and relative to sodium.
The thesis recommended the use of saline water within certain limits in irrigating some plants to avoid the risk of drought and face the scarcity of suitable water for irrigation, by spraying some plant growth promoters such as nanomaterials, including multi-walled carbon nanotubes, the subject of the study, and conducting scientific studies focusing on the active substances available in the chrysanthemum plant (Calendula Officinalis L.) and its effect in treating various diseases and injuries. The student obtained an honors degree.
