The Department of Life Sciences at the College of Education for Pure Sciences organized a scientific symposium on (The Harm of Drugs on the Individual and Society), presented by the lecturer (Asst. Prof. Ali Hussein Kazim) and (Asst. Lect. Bashayer Ali Sakab) This symposium aims to define drugs and explain their harm to the individual as they destroy the individual’s health and cause chronic diseases such as liver damage and heart disease. They affect the mind, leading to depression, poor concentration and addiction. They cause job loss or academic failure and destroy family relationships The symposium included several axes on presenting the negative harms of the drug phenomenon as it pushes the addict towards crimes such as theft and violence to secure drugs, and the addict’s life may end with an overdose or due to diseases resulting from drug abuse. The researchers recommended the need to pay attention to such topics to raise awareness among individuals and society about the drug problem, which is one of the biggest problems that countries of the world suffer from and strive to combat due to its serious harm to health, social, economic and security aspects.
