The Physics Department at the College of Education for Pure Sciences organized a scientific symposium on (Practical Training for Nuclear Laboratory Experiments). It was delivered by both lecturers: (Asst. Prof. Ali Mahdi Abdul Hussein), and (Asst. Prof. Abrar Abbas Ibrahim). This course aimed to define radiation, its sources and types, and to know the types of detectors most commonly used to detect ionizing radiation. The course also included several axes on the types of detectors most commonly used to detect ionizing radiation, including gas detectors such as the Gayker counter detector, flash detectors, and nuclear trace detectors such as the CR-39 and Rad-7 detector. The researchers recommended paying attention to such topics in order to know the steps that must be followed to protect against ionizing radiation activity, such as using protective shields and gloves and maintaining a distance from the radiation source.
