Chemistry Department Discusses Master’s Thesis on Semiconductor Nanoparticles: Synthesis, Characterization and Study of Electronic and Structural Properties

Discussion of Master’s Thesis

The Chemistry Department at the College of Education for Pure Sciences at the University of Kerbala discussed a master’s thesis entitled (Semiconductor Nanoparticles: Synthesis, Characterization and Study of Electronic and Structural Properties) by the student (Afrah Ahmed Sayyab), under the supervision of (Prof. Ala Mahdi Abdul Ali) as first supervisor, and (Prof. Nagham Muhi Kazim) as second supervisor.
The thesis aimed to prepare nanostructures of silver sulfide using the chemical precipitation method. The growth process of silver sulfide nanoparticles was controlled by modifying variables including the pH solution, the concentration of the starting materials, the reaction time and the reaction temperature.
The study recommended the use of dissimilar nanoparticles and magnesium was successfully manufactured using the chemical precipitation technique. So that the band gap energy of the nanoparticles becomes larger than that formed in the absence of the metal, because the metal ion modifies the energy levels of the host molecules. The student received an excellent grade.
