The Times Asian University Rankings announced the results of its 2024 edition, which evaluated seven hundred and thirty-nine universities according to a methodology that includes standards and indicators related to teaching, research environment and quality, international outlook, and industry. The ranking website (https://www.timeshighereducation.com/…/regional-ranking…) showed that the Iraqi universities index rose to thirteen competing educational institutions compared to last year’s version, which included only eight universities. The results indicated that the technological universities ranked (351). -400), Al-Qadisiyah (501-600), Babylon (501-600), and Diyala (501-600) Al-Nahrain (601+), Central Technology (601+), Al-Mustansiriya (601+), Al-Anbar (601+), Baghdad (601+), Basra (601+), Karbala (601+), Kufa (601+), and Mosul (601+). The evaluation criteria are based on seventeen indicators, which are distributed as follows: ▪️Teaching (24.5%) includes teaching reputation 10%, staff to student ratio 4.5%, doctorate to bachelor’s ratio 2%, doctorate to faculty ratio 5.5%, and institutional income 2.5%. ▪️Research environment (28%) includes research reputation 15%, research income 6.5%, and research productivity 6.5. ▪️ Research quality (30%) includes citation influence 7.5%, research strength 7.5%, research excellence 7.5%, and research influence 7.5%. ▪️International outlook (7.5%) includes the percentage of international students 2.5%, the percentage of international employees 2.5%, and international cooperation 2.5%. ▪️Industry (10%) includes industry income 5% and patents 5%. It is worth noting that Iraq achieved 37th place globally in the Times University Rankings for the year 2024, while the University of Karbala achieved ninth place locally by registering Iraqi universities competing in the classification, which evaluated 2,024 universities from 108 countries around the world.
