The Department of Life Sciences at the College of Education for Pure Sciences at the University of Kerbala discussed a doctoral thesis entitled (Evaluating the Preventive Role of Some Nanovitamins in Suppressing Oxidative Stress Caused by the Action of the Drug Cimetidine on Some Reproductive Parameters in White Male Rats), by the student (Maytham Ali Karim), under the supervision of (Dr. Prof. Nasir Mirza Hamza) as the first supervisor, and (Prof. Dr. Ashwaq Kazem Obaid Al-Tai) as the second supervisor. The thesis aimed to evaluate the protective role of vitamins C and E and their nanoparticles and investigate their role against possible physiological and histological changes in some organs of the male reproductive system of albino rats treated with cimetidine. The thesis also included a study of the effect of oxidative stress induced by the drug cimetidine on body weight and reproductive organs, as well as on the fertility of male rats, through changes in the normal parameters of sperm, which included a decrease in the percentage of live sperm, an increase in the percentage of dead sperm, sperm deformities, and the process of sperm formation, as well as Degenerative histological changes in the testicle and epididymis, with decreased diameters of the seminiferous and epididymal tubules. It gives the best results in most of the criteria studied, especially antioxidants, improvement of tissue parameters, sperm parameters, and hormonal results, in addition to its role in improving fertility efficiency by improving the above criteria.
The study recommended the possibility of benefiting from the preventive role of vitamins C and E to reduce the side effects of cimetidine, especially for people who are treated with it. And studying the effect of cimetidine on glands such as the pituitary gland, adrenal gland, and thyroid gland, as they are related to sexual maturity and others after exposure to oxidative stress in the body. The student received an excellent grade. To view the pictures:
