The Department of Biology Discusses a Doctoral Thesis on Evaluating an Epidemiological, Immunological and Molecular Study on Aborted Women with Toxoplasmosis
The Department of Biology at the College of Education for Pure Sciences at the University of Karbala discussed a doctoral thesis entitled (An Epidemiological, Immunological and Molecular Study of Aborted Women with Toxoplasmosis). By the student (Hussein Ali Mohsen), and under the supervision of (Prof. Dr. Kawthar Abdel Hussein Mahdi). The thesis aimed to identify the incidence of toxoplasmosis and its relationship to age, education, housing, and livelihood. And a study of some pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory immune indicators and their relationship to women who miscarried with toxoplasmosis. And the detection of some mutations in the cellular motility genes under study. The thesis also included the presence of an immune response represented by a significant increase in IL1β, IL-10, and TNF-α for patients who miscarried with toxoplasmosis compared to patients who miscarried for other reasons.
The study recommended further study of patients aborted with toxoplasmosis and patients aborted for other reasons, assessing the level of organized and defensive cellular movements, collecting blood samples from the placentas of patients infected with toxoplasmosis, investigating virulence factors and parasite antigens, and comparing them with the placentas of patients aborted for other reasons. The student received an excellent grade. To view the pictures:
