Regular meeting of the Vocational Education and Training Coordination Group in Iraq
The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research hosted the regular meeting of the Vocational Education and Training Coordination Working Group (TVET CG) with the participation of representatives of UNESCO and a number of ministries. The Ministry’s advisor, Dr. Alaa Abdel Hassan Attia, confirmed that the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research is working in accordance with the effective partnership with international organizations and institutions and the European Union in strengthening infrastructure and responding to the requirements of sustainable development, pointing out that the Ministry and its institutions have completed many projects that had a direct impact on solidifying the process. Education, especially the Bologna Process, and achieving the highest level of academic quality standards. In this context, the head of the Scientific Supervision and Evaluation Service, Dr. Salah Al-Fatlawi, explained the importance of coordination between universities and specialized organizations in line with the project to develop technical and vocational education and training and align their programs with the national education strategy in Iraq. For his part, the Chairman of the Supreme Committee for the Development of Education in Iraq, Dr. Hamid Khalaf, stressed the necessity of measuring the effectiveness of projects and programs of donor countries and activating joint responsibility in enriching educational programs and projects by discussing the establishment of a coordination committee with the participation of the Kurdistan Region and international organizations. For his part, the Senior Deputy Counselor for Technical and Vocational Education and Training at UNESCO, Mr. Tim Maizen, said that the organization is making clear efforts with the European Union to support the strategy of vocational education and training and to complete the work of the steering committees dedicated to developing this type of education in Iraq, as well as supporting primary and postgraduate studies programs and moving towards… Field surveys to determine future needs of the labor market. The meeting included an introduction to the National Strategy for Education in Iraq (20022-2031), an introduction to the programs of UNESCO and other international organizations working with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, as well as a review of coordination mechanisms between partners in the fields of education and vocational training in Iraq.
