Arab Classification of Universities
The University of Karbala ranked eleventh locally in the “Arab Classification of Universities” out of (19) Iraqi universities that participated in the classification for the year 2023. The classification was based on four main indicators that included teaching and learning, scientific research, creativity, leadership and innovation, international and local cooperation and community service, Each indicator was measured using nine criteria with weights chosen with great care. The classification aims to be a major motivator for academics in the field of quality education and scientific research, and indicates the importance of universities transforming into third and fourth generation universities with the introduction of two indicators for open science through consolidating international relations and cooperation with the final beneficiaries, and encouraging them to transform their research outputs into products that benefit society to help everyone. The above aims to attract distinguished professors to teach at universities, and outstanding and expatriate students to join universities to study. It is noteworthy that the “Arab Classification of Universities”, which emerged from the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, the Arab Organization for Culture and Science (ALECSO) and the Union of Arab Universities, presented this platform to include 115 universities from 16 Arab countries for the year 2023, and 19 universities from Iraq participated in this classification.
