The Department of Life Sciences Discusses a Doctoral Thesis on the Effect of Ashwagandha Plant Extract on Some Physiological, Histological and Genetic Parameters in the Reproductive System of Male Albino Rats Treated with Levofloxacin

Discussion of a Doctoral Thesis

The Department of Life Sciences at the College of Education for Pure Sciences at the University of Karbala discussed the doctoral thesis entitled (The Effect of the Extract of the Ashwagandha Plant Withania Somnifera L. on Some Physiological, Histological and Genetic Parameters in the Reproductive System of Male Albino Rats Treated with the Drug Levofloxacin) by the student (Mahmoud Nima Hammoud), and under the supervision of ( Prof. Dr. Liqaa Hassoun Sakban) as first supervisor, and (Prof. Dr. Zainab Nizar Jawad) as second supervisor.
The aim of the thesis was to diagnose the secondary metabolic compounds using a GC-MS device for the Ashwagandha root extract, and the drug interaction and protective role of the extract and the antibiotic levofloxacin in the function of some components of the male reproductive system, and to determine the resulting effects of changes in the tissues of the testicles, epididymis, sex hormones, and changes in sperm parameters. And studying the rate of DNA breakdown in sperm cells.
The thesis recommended the necessity of adhering to the dose and duration specified for the antibiotic levofloxacin (LVFX), while avoiding using it for a long period to avoid side effects on the organs and tissues of the body, especially the intestines, liver, and all organs of the body.
In addition to conducting further studies to identify the subtle changes occurring in reproductive tissue cells using transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Characterizing and isolating the active phytochemical components in the roots and leaves of this plant and studying the effect of the nano-extract of the Ashwagandha plant at the molecular level. The student received an excellent grade.
