A lecturer at the College of Education for Pure Sciences/Department of Life Sciences, Dr. Israa Nasser Ghulam, obtained acceptance for publication of a scientific article titled (Pesticides and their Harms) by the Scientific Articles Committee at the Presidency of the University of Karbala after the article fulfilled all publication conditions. Prof. Israa Nasser Ghulam stated that pesticides are toxic chemical substances used to combat agricultural pests such as insects, fungi, bacteria, harmful weeds, or any type of living organisms that can cause harm to human and animal health, so they must be used. cautiously. Although there are benefits to using pesticides, they also have serious adverse effects, such as potential poisoning of humans or even other animals. According to the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants, every ten out of twelve highly hazardous persistent chemical compounds are pesticides. Pesticides can be classified based on the target organism, chemical structure, and physical state. Pesticides can also be classified as inorganic, synthetic and biocidal. Pesticides cause some acute and delayed health effects in those exposed to them, which may vary from minor skin and eye irritation to some severe effects such as affecting the nervous system, hormonal mimicking, causing reproductive problems, as well as causing cancers.
