The Department of Life Sciences Discusses a Master’s Thesis on Studying the Effect of the Drug Levetiracetam on Fetuses and Adult Females in Laboratory Rats

Discussion of a Master’s Thesis

The Department of Life Sciences at the College of Education for Pure Sciences discussed a master’s thesis by the student (Ola Abbas Nawaf), entitled (Study of the Effect of the Drug Levetiracetam on Fetuses and Adult Females in Laboratory Rats) under the supervision of the teacher (Shaima Malik Yasser). In light of the results of the current study, the following was concluded:
1- There is no effect in the doses used for levetiracetam during the first trimester of pregnancy.
2- Levetiracetam at two concentrations (100 and 200) mg/kg did not affect the ovarian tissue of pregnant female rats on day 7 of pregnancy.
3- The drug, at two concentrations (100 and 200) mg/kg, reduced the weights and body lengths of fetuses in pregnant female rats on their backs at the age of 18 days of pregnancy.
4- The drug at two concentrations (100 and 200) mg/kg during days 7 and 18 of pregnancy caused pathological histological changes in the histological structure of the livers and kidneys of pregnant female rats.
