The Department of Biology Discusses a Master’s thesis on the Protective role of the Natural and Magnetic Aqueous Extract of Carrot Plant Roots

Discussion of a Master’s Thesis

The Department of biology at the College of Education for Pure Sciences at the University of Karbala discussed a master’s thesis entitled (The preventive role of the natural and magnetic aqueous extract of the roots of the carrot plant Daucus carota against hepatotoxicity induced by acetaminophen in white male rats) by the student (Dargham Adel Obaid), and under the supervision of (Prof. Dr. Naseer Mirza Hamza).
The aim of the thesis was to shed light on the biological effectiveness of the cold aqueous extract of carrot roots and its role in preventing oxidative stress to which the body is exposed, and to study the health and therapeutic properties of the effective compounds in the plant.
The message also included that the oxidative stress caused by the toxic reactive metabolic product of acetaminophen (NAPQI) caused changes in some physiological parameters, represented by a significant increase in the concentration of liver enzymes (AST, ALT, ALP) and kidney function parameters that include urea, creatine, and blood electrolytes ( Ca, K, Na), and low-density lipoprotein.
The letter recommended conducting more studies to demonstrate the effect of therapeutic doses of acetaminophen over a long period of time. Paying attention to medicinal plants to reduce the side effects resulting from chemical drug treatments through increasing awareness and education. The student received an excellent grade.
