The Department of Chemistry in the College of Education for Pure Sciences discussed the master’s thesis for the student (Israa Muhammad Mohsen), under the supervision of (Asst. Prof. Dr. Ola Mahdi Abd Ali), and the second supervisor (Asst. Prof. Dr. Abdel Bari Mahdi Mahoud) for her thesis entitled (Chromatographic and Spectral Estimation) for some antidepressants). The research aimed to determine the importance of these drugs in various medical and life aspects. Two methods for its estimation have been developed: 1- The first method: includes the use of reversible phase chromatography to estimate the four drugs in their free form separated qualitatively and quantitatively, then mixed and then separated through column C18, and the factors that lead to their separation and estimation have been fully studied 2- The second method:- It is the spectroscopic method and included the use of oxidation-reduction reactions and then the selection of the MBTH reagent and the oxidizing agent FeCl3 drugs (chlordiazepoxide, diazepam, amitriptyline, and alprazolam) quantitatively after studying the different conditions that give high sensitivity to obtain a high detection limit.
* The most important conclusions: 1- The validity and selectivity of the Rp-HPLC method were confirmed by using a UV detector to measure and analyze each of CH, DIZE, AM, and ALP, and compared it with the standard methods approved in the pharmacopeia. 2- A simple and sensitive spectrophotometric method has been developed for the determination of CH, DIZE, AM, and ALP in their pure state and some pharmaceutical preparations, using the (oxidative conjugation) method using the reagent 3-methyl-2-benzothiazole non-hydrazine hydrochloride hydrate. And through the values of the molar absorption coefficient obtained in the methods used, which were high, we can conclude that these methods are highly sensitive compared to other methods used in the estimation of these four drugs. It can also be applied in the determination of these drugs in their pure state and pharmaceutical preparations. The t-test and the calculated F-test were less than the tabular values. After extensive scientific discussion and listening to the student’s defense of her thesis, her research method, and her use of sources and references, the thesis was approved with honors. Congratulations to the student, her supervisors, the Department of Chemistry, and the College of Education for Pure Sciences for this great achievement, and God Almighty grants success.
