The Department of Chemistry at the College of Education for Pure Sciences discussed the master’s thesis of the student (Aseel Ihsan Mahmoud) for her thesis entitled (A study of fertility hormones in women with recurrent miscarriages in Kerbala city), under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. (Rehab Jassem Muhammad). The objectives of the thesis were determined by finding the relationship between fertility hormones and repeated miscarriages with finding changes in hormone levels in non-pregnant women to find out the main causes of repeated miscarriages for diagnosing PCOS in women who suffer from repeated miscarriages, as well as finding levels of hormone concentrations (Inhibin B, Activin A, FSH, LH, Progesterone, Prolactin, Estrogen, Testosterone) with pregnancy duration, number of miscarriages and last miscarriage date.
As for the most prominent conclusions: There is a relationship between fertility hormones and repeated miscarriages through the differences in hormone levels, high and low from the normal level for women patients with polycystic ovary syndrome compared to control women, polycystic ovary syndrome, obesity, maternal age are the main causes of frequent miscarriages, concentrations of hormone levels with the duration of pregnancy where Frequent miscarriages increase in the first trimester of pregnancy compared to the second trimester, the concentration of hormone levels with the date of the last miscarriage, where it is preferred to space between births for no less than 6-9 months until fertility rises again and increases the chance of live births. After extensive scientific discussion and listening to the student’s defense of her thesis, her research method, and her use of sources and references, the thesis was approved with honors. Congratulations to the student, her supervisor, the Department of Chemistry, and the College of Education for Pure Sciences for this great achievement, and God Almighty grants success.
