The Department of Biology Discusses a Doctoral Thesis on the Interaction of Cadmium and Lead, beside, their Accumulation in two Types of wheat Grown in the Hydroponic Farm
The Department of biology at the College of Education for Pure Sciences discussed the doctoral thesis of the student (Jassim Wahab Muhammad Al-Yasari) entitled (Interference of cadmium and lead and their accumulation in two types of wheat grown in the hydroponic farm), under the supervision of (Prof. Dr. Ahmed Najm Abdullah Al-Mousawi) from the College of Agriculture / University of Karbala, (Prof. Dr. Hassan Jamil Al-Fatlawi) from the College of Science / University of Karbala. The study aimed to: Study the effect of the accumulation of cadmium and lead added to the nutrient solution in the hydroponic farm and its effect on some vegetative characteristics, physiological changes and concentrations of some nutritional elements for two types of wheat and to determine the parts in which heavy metals accumulate and are they within the levels permitted by the World Health Organization As well as studying the effectiveness of enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidants and some hormones in the absence of the accumulation of heavy metals and knowing the efficient class that has the least accumulation of heavy metals from cadmium and lead. As for the most prominent conclusions: 1- Heavy metals accumulation in the two wheat cultivars followed the following sequence: Iraq < gondola and lead concentration < of cadmium and accumulation in roots < of accumulation in the vegetative part 2- Increasing the concentrations of heavy metals, cadmium and lead in the tissues of wheat cultivars. 3- The effect of adding heavy metals, cadmium and lead, on the superiority of the enzymatic activity and an increase in the values of SOD, POD, CAT and non-enzymatic products such as proline and the growth hormone silicic acid. 4- The most overlapping treatment of heavy metals that affected the two types of wheat is (Cd100 – Pb100). After extensive scientific discussion and listening to the student’s defense of his thesis, his research method and his use of sources and references, the thesis was approved with honors. Congratulations to the student and his supervisor and to the College of Education for Pure Sciences and the College of Science for this achievement and to the University of Karbala and to more creativity in the service of our beloved Iraq, the Iraq of science and scholars, and from God Almighty success and payment.
