The Department of Biology Discusses a Master’s Thesis on a Comparative Study for Calculating the Ratios and Diameters of Red and White Muscle Fibers in Linen and Skunk Fish in the Holy Governorate of Karbala
The Department of biology at the College of Education for Pure Sciences discussed a master’s thesis by the student (Rasha Saeed Abdul Shahid Al-Tamimi) entitled (A comparative study for calculating the proportions and diameters of red and egg muscle fibers in flankers (Luciobarbus xanthophores (Heckel, 1843) and Leuciscus borax (Heckel, 1843) in The Holy Karbala Governorate) under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. (Mohammed Wissam Al-Muhanna) and Assistant Professor Dr. (Batool Abbas Hussein Al-Jabri) The current study aimed to determine the level of motor activity of the local study fish to determine the best species for fish farming. The conclusions were the importance of the posterior region of the fish body with the caudal fin and their role in the movement of the fish; Because it represents the movement’s main member. The Shilluk and the Kattan were counted within the level of the intermediate level fish (intermediate swimming) based on the total ratio of red muscle. The study also showed that the percentages of the white muscle fibers are much more than the percentages of the red muscles in the body regions and that the rates of the percentages of the white muscle fibers vary according to the different length groups in both types, as it decreases as the fish increases in length and that the white muscles constitute the largest part of the body mass. In conclusion, after an extensive scientific discussion and listening to the student’s defense of her message, her method of research, and her use of sources and references, the thesis was approved with honors. Congratulations to the student, to her supervisor, to the College of Education for Pure Sciences for this achievement, to the University of Karbala, and more creativity in the service of our beloved Iraq, the Iraq of science and scholars, and from God Almighty success.
