Honoring the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research on the Occasion of the Iraqi Academic Day
The Iraqi Academics Syndicate honored the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Dr. Nabil Kazem Abdel Sahib, on the occasion of the Iraqi Academic Day. This came during the central celebration of the occasion, which was held by the Syndicate of Academics at the University of Baghdad, in the presence of the head of the Iraqi Scientific Academy and a crowd of university professors and representatives from various Iraqi provinces. In his speech, the Minister of Education praised the Syndicate’s efforts in professional consolidation of institutions of higher education and scientific research and its contribution to the dialogues of university councils in accordance with the sober scientific requirements. He stressed that the teaching staff have assumed responsibilities that are not easy, and that the higher university administrations cannot achieve the requirements of academic reputation unless their scientific and research teams undertake this task and the concerted efforts of all in achieving positive results in the field of development, improving performance and focusing on scientific publishing, noting that global containers recorded more Out of ninety thousand scientific researches in various specialized fields submitted by Iraqi researchers from various governmental and private universities and colleges. In his speech, the Minister of Education called on the Iraqi Parliament and the competent authorities to support the academic institution and achieve the following: ▪️ Allocating supportive budgets for universities, as they are among the most important institutions responsible for sustainable development. ▪️ Addressing the retirement law, giving privacy to university professors, and redressing the impact of referring more than three thousand teaching professors and assistant professors to retirement within the next three years. ▪️ Protecting responsible academic freedoms and providing teachers’ needs with decent living and housing. In his speech, the Minister of Education directed the universities, their councils, and their specialized committees to activate their powers to extend the services of teachers in accordance with the University Service Law, explaining that the ministry has worked for more than a year to formulate the retirement fund system for teachers and workers in universities and private colleges, and succeeded in approving it recently in the Council of Ministers in order to preserve energies Humanity with scientific impact from holders of higher degrees. For his part, the head of the Iraqi Academics Syndicate, Dr. Muhannad Al-Hilali, said in his speech that the union is working to invest all available means to support academics, calling at the same time to create a higher council for education and to proceed with legislation that guarantees university institutions and their professors what they aspire to. The ceremony included a poem by the head of the Iraqi Scientific Academy, Dr. Muhammad Hussein Al Yassin, an artistic presentation by the National Ensemble for the Iraqi Musical Heritage, and a tribute to the families of the martyrs and the deceased among the professors and a group of distinguished pioneers and academics.
