Dean of the College of Education for Pure Sciences Publishes a Scientific Article Entitled (Corrosion of Metals)

Scientific Article

The Dean of the College of Education for Pure Sciences, Prof. Dr. Hamida Idan Salman, obtained acceptance to publish a scientific article tagged with the title (Corrosion of Metals) by the Scientific Articles Committee at the Presidency of Karbala University after the article fulfilled all publication conditions. (Prof. Dr. Hamida Aidan Salman) stated that corrosion is the damage of the material through a chemical or electrochemical reaction with the surrounding medium, which is in contact with the material, whether this medium is air or chemical surroundings and at any temperature. Hence, the damage of metals as a result of the influence of mechanical forces, friction for example, is not called corrosion, but the main reason for the corrosion of metals and the difference in the corrosion equations between one metal and another, is due to the origin and origin of these metals. Corrosion, its harms and methods of protection from it constitute a costly engineering problem that is expected to increase in importance with the rapid and continuous development taking place in the engineering industries. Therefore, the study of the phenomenon of corrosion is of great importance in several aspects:

1 – From an economic point of view, as it is represented in reducing the lost metal materials that are subject to corrosion, such as oil and water pipelines, metal tanks, metal parts of machinery, ships, marine buildings, and others.
2 – Achieving safety for buildings that, when exposed to corrosion, collapse, causing severe consequences and disasters, such as high pressure vessels, boilers, metal containers for radioactive materials, components of aircraft and cars, and others.
3- Protecting the world’s stock of minerals that are lost due to corrosion, i.e. preserving the stock of energy and water used in re-manufacturing and composition of lost minerals.
