College of Education for Pure Sciences at the University of Karbala held a scientific symposium entitled (Drugs… a scourge that threatens youth), delivered by: Director of the Department of Anti-Narcotics in Karbala, the Legal Brigadier General (Jabbar Fadel Sukkar), and (Asst. Dr. Ali Abbas Ghriwi), and (Asst.Dr. Malik Mutlaq Takhit), on Wednesday, 19/1/2022, at the auditorium of the late Mr. Hussein Ali Abdul Latif. The aim of the symposium was to define and clarify the extent of the danger of drug spread in Iraq, which has reached record levels in terms of rates of drug abuse among young people and the widespread phenomenon of drug trafficking, which leads the country into a dilemma that specialists describe as “more dangerous than terrorism.” The symposium addressed three themes: The first axis sheds light on the actual reality of the spread of drugs in light of the pandemic and the measures taken in this regard, presented by the Human Rights Dean (Jabbar Fadl Sukkar). The second axis is the psychological aspects related to addiction, its causes and its introduction (Asst. Dr. Ali Abbas Ghrawi). The third axis is the legal aspect and the legislator’s vision of the issue of drug spread, presented by (Asst. Dr. Malik Mutlak Takhit).
