The Department of Chemistry at the College of Education for Pure Sciences / University of Karbala discussed the master’s thesis entitled (The Relationship Between Pregnancy and Thyroid Hormones in Pregnant Women), by the student (Rabab Salman Baida), and under the supervision of Prof. Rehab Jassim Muhammad. The thesis aims to know the extent of thyroid disease in pregnant women, and the relationship between thyroid disease and recurrent miscarriage, diabetes, high blood pressure and intrauterine growth restriction in pregnant women.
The letter showed the relationship between thyroid diseases and risk factors, as the prevalence of repeated miscarriage was 22%, high blood pressure was 18%, diabetes mellitus was 10%, and intrauterine growth restriction was 25% in the case of hypothyroidism, while the prevalence was among the miscarriages. Recurrent hyperthyroidism 8%, hypertension 12%, diabetes mellitus 15%, intrauterine growth restriction 5%, and the incidence of growth restriction factor in pregnant women with hypothyroidism is higher in the 15-24 age group at 13.9%, The rate of recurrent miscarriage is 12.1% which is the highest in the 25-34 year age group while hypertension was. 13%. , which is highest in the 35-43 age group. The researcher recommended periodic evaluation of thyroid function during pregnancy through family history of thyroid disease, symptoms or signs of hypothyroidism, women with autoimmune disorders, exposure to radiation to the head or neck, and obesity.The student received an axcelent grade.
